Contents | In the Fundamental of Geotechnics class the students will deal for the first time with problems concerning a particulate system, which is globally considered as a continuum, and consists of extremely different materials: solid particles and a fluid (a liquid, a gas or both) filling the pores. The class examines simple problems dealing with features and properties of such a particulate system. |
Textbook and course materials | The class contents are reported in more than 200 pages of notes, which are free for students |
Course objectives | Using the basic principles of Fluid and Soil Mechanics, students will be able to understand the behaviour of soils accounting for the interaction among the constituent phases. |
Prerequisites | To face with success the discipline contents, the students should have a good knowledge of the contents of all preparatory classes in Mathematics and Physics. |
Teaching methods | The structure of the class is a traditional one consisting in class lectures |
Evaluation methods | The student advancement will be checked through an oral examination |
Course Syllabus | General contents. Geotechnical problems in Civil and Environmental Engineering |
