This seminar aims to provide fundamental understanding of the physical phenomena and technologies associated with internal combustion engines, with a particular focus on the transition to hydrogen fuelling. Hydrogen has the potential to significantly reduce emissions and enhance engine efficiency without compromising performance. The seminar will cover both in-cylinder phenomena, such as abnormal combustion, and out-of-cylinder phenomena, including injection, air exchange and storage. In the final part of the seminar, special attention is given to the critical role of hydrogen sensing and various hydrogen concentration sensors are compared. Lastly, a metrological analysis is presented for the most promising sensor.
