Altre informazioni | Sono rese disponibili a cura del docente: presentazioni sintetiche, dispense bibliografiche. |

Contents | The course proposes an extension from the architectural scale to the urban scale, taking into consideration the more complex built environment in which buildings are inserted. In particular, we focus on some basic and recurring themes, such as: the integration of new architecture with the existing context, building facades as a "filter" between interior and exterior, the square and social places. In addition, in the contemporary age, the construction of social housing is crucial in the evolution of the city's history, also in relation to the evolution of the neighbourhood and the suburbs. |
Textbook and course materials | The study of selected texts (as indicated by the professor) from the following reference books is proposed: |
Course objectives | The course contributes to providing methods and tools for in-depth cognitive analysis of the phenomena and processes that have characterised the architecture and places of the city throughout history, stimulating sensitivity to the quality of the built environment. At the end of the course the student will be able to critically read projects and realisations of the period under study, to understand the Italian and international experiences of the contemporary city, having matured an autonomous capacity of judgement that will allow him to evaluate the most appropriate choices in design. |
Teaching methods | Lectures based on the projection of images (6 CFU). Classroom workshops aimed at investigating selected episodes, the subject of a paper to be presented in PPT format (3 CFU). |
Evaluation methods | The final examination will take the form of an interview on the content of the programme, during which both the degree of knowledge of the topics covered and the ability to relate them will be assessed. The final paper, which is the subject of the in-depth study, will also be assessed. |
Other information | The following are made available by the lecturer: summary presentations, bibliographical handouts. |
Course Syllabus | In the context of a vast periodization, the course proposes a necessary selection of exemplifying "cases", starting from the city in the 15th century - as an initial moment of reflection on a unitary urban project - but essentially turned to the contemporary: from the utopias born in response to the social unease for the industrial city and from the first urbanistic episodes of the 19th century to the Reconstruction after World War II, up to the utopias of the 1960s. |
