Testi di riferimento | "Introduction to Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics", J.M. Smith, H.C. Van Ness, M.M. Abbott - McGraw Hill |
Prerequisiti | Termodinamica, trasporto di materia e di calore |
Metodologie didattiche | Lezioni frontali. Teoria ed esercizi. |

Contents | This course provides the student engineer for the energy and environment, and the student in civil engineering, the basic knowledge of the thermodynamics of non-ideal substances, the mass transfer phenomena with more than one independent variable, the models to study the heterogeneous reactions that underlie the design of treatment plants, in particular the incinerators, the models to study the heterogeneous catalysis on which many treatment plants are based, e.g. the plants for Nox treatement. Students are then provided with the basic concepts of the transport of pollutants both in the atmosphere and in porous matrices such as soils. The use of softwares for their implementation is required for passing the exam. |
Textbook and course materials | "Introduction to Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics", J.M. Smith, H.C. Van Ness, M.M. Abbott - McGraw Hill |
Course objectives | Aim of the course is the acquisition of the skills to model and analyse problems in which the thermodynamics of non-ideal substances are involved. In addition, students must learn the methodolody to treat the reactive mass transport in heterogeneous media and/or in conditions close to reality. Students will also learn the fundamentals of the pollutants transport in the atmosphere using simplified models and deidacated softwares. |
Prerequisites | Thermodynamics, Heat and mass Transfer |
Teaching methods | Oral lectures. Theory and exercises. |
Evaluation methods | Written exam, which is a prerequisite of the oral exam. |
