Course objectives | The course aims to provide the basics of classical physics (mechanics and thermodynamics) and the principles of scientific method. Special attention is paid to the physical interpretation of phenomena, their mathematical description, and problem solving. In order to motivate students more, the topics are presented in the broad cultural context in which they arose and in relation to their multidisciplinary relevance and applications. Starting from the emblematic case of the problem of motion, the main goal of the course is to equip the student with a scientific methodology for the analysis of problems, in physics and beyond. |
Prerequisites | Basic algebra, geometry, trigonometry and analysis. |
Teaching methods | Lectures, exercises, film projection and experimental demonstrations in the classroom. |
Evaluation methods | One written test and one oral exam. |
